In this week of our STUCK series, we wrestle with a difficult and very real question: When should Christians obey governing authorities—and when should we not?
Scripture calls believers to respect and submit to the authorities placed over us. But what happens when those authorities conflict with what God commands?
Looking at Acts 4, we see Peter and John standing before the Sanhedrin after healing a man and boldly proclaiming Jesus. They are ordered to stop speaking about Christ. Their response reveals a powerful principle for followers of Jesus:
When human authority commands what God forbids—or forbids what God commands—our ultimate allegiance belongs to God.
But this tension isn’t solved with a simple list of rules. Instead, it calls believers to know Jesus deeply—so deeply that our words and actions clearly reflect Him.
When people looked at the disciples, they recognized something unmistakable: they had been with Jesus.
As we navigate authority, culture, and conflict, the call remains the same: know the voice of our Shepherd and live in faithful obedience to Him.
When we follow Christ above all, our lives point others to God’s kingdom.
